Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become popular were not successful. Two different record labels signed her and then removed her from the market before she'd made any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007 and it garnered only a small amount of attention due to the cheerfully playful title track. Perry sparked more attention several months later with the single I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the fascination of sexuality backed by an electro-pop beat that is hard edged. The track quickly generated debate as critics denigrated the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians as well as others argued that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked men's fantasies about female sexuality. I Kissed A Girl's mix of titillation, polished melody and a catchy chorus helped the song become a top 10 hit across a range of countries. It also helped Perry make more albums available, such as one of the Boys (2007). Hot N Cold's witty and lively second track was popular. This album that Perry made for herself, was a huge success, selling over three millions copies in the United States.
